Earth Day!

Earth Day!

April 22nd, a week from today is Earth Day! This is a great time to celebrate the wonderful world we live in, and think about sustainable practices that will help our planet be around for generations to come. Read on below for five tips on how to be more ecofriendly, on Earth Day and every day!

  1. Shorter Showers

-Who doesn’t love a long hot shower, or even better a bath? The problem is though, both waste a lot of water! Try and opt for a shower that takes five minutes or less. Studies show that shaving even one minute off your daily shower can save almost 1,000 gallons of water every year! Awesome for the environment, and awesome for your water bill 😊.

  1. Favor Florescent Light Bulbs

-Consider switching the light bulbs in your house to CFLS, or compact fluorescent lights. While it is true they are more expensive than the typical light bulb, they use ¼ of the energy and can last up to 10 times longer, so they pay off in the end! Plus, less energy means a lower energy bill at the end of the month.

  1. Unplug

-When you’re not using something, unplug it! Even when something is not in use, such as a toaster or microwave, when it is still plugged in it continues to draw small amounts of energy from the outlet. If your phone isn’t charging, unplug the cord from the wall. This is really a safe practice to have with dogs anyways, in case your furry friend decides to chew on cords around the house.

  1. Line Dry

-When the weather is good, instead of putting your laundry in the dryer hang them up outside. Clothes dryers can use a large amount of energy, so let Mother Nature do the work!

  1. Reuse

-Consider purchasing a reusable water bottle. An estimated 80 percent of plastic water bottles don’t get recycled, and due to their plastic production process, it takes almost three times the amount of water in a water bottle to produce just one! Not only is a reusable bottle better for the environment, it is also better for your wallet. A typical plastic water bottle costs about $1.50, while a decent BPA free re-usable bottle costs maybe $15, and can be used for years.

Here at Bedtime4dogs we are committed to ecofriendly practices too! For example our Sleepy Sheep Cuddle Toy is made with ecologically friendly materials right here in the USA. The box it is shipped in is made from recycled materials and is produced with wind power. Go sustainability!
