Safe Flowers for Your Pets
Now is the time to get planting and landscaping, but it is always good to remember your pets! The last thing you want to do when turning your place into a colorful leafy haven is to accidentally poison the dog. Plants like aloe, American holly, and elephant ears to name a few can all be toxic to your pooch (for a complete list: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants). Read on below for some gorgeous flowers that will be 100 percent safe for your canine companion!
-Marigolds can come in lots of different orange, red, and yellow variants. What’s more, they can sometimes act as a natural bug repellent!
- African Violet
-This plant makes a lovely indoor addition to any home. They can be a bit finicky when it comes to water, so be sure not to leave them dry or leave them in standing water.
-Orchids are sure to brighten any space they are put into. They can last a long time too—just be sure not to over-water them! Did you know that orchids are used for a number of purposes, which include perfume and Asian medicine?
-In ancient times it was said that this plant could offer protection from witches! Whether that is true or not, growing snapdragons will provide months of color ranging from pale pastels to vibrant oranges and reds. They do really well in full or partial sun with dry soils.
-These lovely annual plants do best with some shade and moisture. They are great for attracting birds and other pollinators to your yard, something your dog will no doubt enjoy watching!
-Roses can come in so many different colors! When planting them, it’s a good idea to use some bone-meal to give them some extra energy for their first couple of weeks as they establish themselves in your yard.
-The annual petunia absolutely adores the sun! Water them regularly and cull dead blooms to encourage the plant to continue blossoming throughout their lifespans.
These are just a few of the wonderful kinds of flowers you can use to brighten up your yard. Happy planting!
